No, thank you! Say no to alcohol during pregnancy

In Brazil, a powerful campaign titled “Não, obrigada! Diga não ao álcool na gravidez” is raising much-needed awareness about Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (SAF). Organized by Instituto OMP and supported by leading health institutions, the initiative reminds us that even a single glass of alcohol during pregnancy can cause irreversible harm to a developing baby. SAF is a lifelong condition affecting physical, cognitive, and emotional development, yet it is 100% preventable — through complete abstinence from alcohol during pregnancy.

The campaign highlights alarming data: around 15% of Brazilian pregnant women consume alcohol — that’s approximately 456,000 women annually. A study in São Paulo revealed that 38 out of every 1,000 newborns showed signs of alcohol-related disorders. Yet, fewer than 1% receive a diagnosis. This discrepancy underscores the urgency for public education and early intervention. By sharing resources, supporting families, and encouraging open dialogue, the campaign aims to build a society where every child can be born with a healthy start.

Instituto OMP invites everyone to join the movement using the hashtag #gravidezsemálcool. Whether you’re an individual, professional, or organization, you can access campaign materials, become a partner, or simply help spread the message. Every shared post, conversation, or act of support brings us closer to a future free from the preventable harm of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

  1. It’s alarming to hear about the higher rates of FASD possibilities in Brazil. So glad to see a campaign hoping to raise awareness and change that!
