Alcohol Awareness Week 2026 asks: “Alcohol and me, what’s your story?”

Alcohol Awareness Week is taking place from 6 to 12 July 2026 under the theme “Alcohol and me.” Organised by Alcohol Change UK, the campaign invites people to take a moment to consider how alcohol may be affecting their health and wellbeing. It also encourages people to support efforts to end alcohol harm, share the campaign through social media and read stories from people who have made changes in their lives.

Alcohol Change UK says alcohol is often presented by large alcohol companies as a central part of everyday experiences, from birthdays and barbecues to evenings at home and supporting a sports team. This can make alcohol feel like an inevitable part of life. Alcohol Awareness Week aims to open a different conversation by asking how alcohol may really be affecting people’s lives and what they can do about it.

The campaign highlights effects that people may not always connect with their drinking, including sleepless nights, low energy, increased anxiety and a general sense of not feeling right. These effects can influence health and wellbeing, relationships, productivity and the lives of people around us. Alcohol can also increase the risk of long-term health conditions, including liver disease, high blood pressure, stroke and cancer.

People are invited to spend a few minutes exploring the role alcohol plays in their lives. This could involve learning about their level of alcohol-related risk, drinking less, trying an alcohol-free experience or simply finding out more. Alcohol Change UK also offers a free, quick and non-judgemental drinking quiz designed to help people understand their drinking patterns, identify potential risks and consider what they may want to do next. The campaign stresses that there is no single approach that will be right for everyone, but that drinking less can bring wider benefits for relationships, families, workplaces and communities.
