Dry July 2026 invites Australians to go alcohol-free for cancer support

Australians are again being invited to take a month off alcohol this July through Dry July 2026, a national fundraising campaign supporting people affected by cancer. The idea is simple, participants sign up for free, go alcohol-free during July and ask friends, family, colleagues or workplaces to donate in support of cancer patients, families and carers.

The funds raised through Dry July are directed to practical and wellbeing support services across Australia. These include specialist cancer nurses, information and support services, wellness programs, accommodation and transport, improvements to cancer centres, and comfort items that help make treatment and recovery a little easier. In 2026, the campaign is partnering with more than 40 organisations nationwide, including major beneficiaries such as Bowel Cancer Australia, Cancer Council and Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

This year’s campaign also uses a lighter creative hook to draw attention to a serious cause. Comedian Tanya Hennessy and former Socceroo Craig Foster are temporarily dropping their “boozy” surnames for July, becoming simply Tanya and Craig, under the campaign line “Farewell Foster. Hooroo Hennessy.” The idea is designed to make Dry July more visible and culturally relevant while still keeping the focus on support for people living with cancer.

Dry July also offers a wide set of materials to help people take part, including posters, social media images, email signatures, a fundraiser toolkit, workplace resources, an alcohol calculator and “Golden Tickets” for participants who want to take one night off the challenge while still raising money. Beyond fundraising, the campaign also promotes the personal benefits many people associate with a month without alcohol, including better sleep, more energy, a clearer head and a chance to reflect on drinking habits.
