The Norwegian organisation Av-og-til has launched a new summer campaign with a simple message to parents: when children are present, stick to zero, one, or at most two glasses of alcohol. The campaign, called “Hot parent summer”, frames responsible drinking not as a restriction, but as something attractive: being safe, present and aware of the children and the other adults around you.
Av-og-til points out that summer holidays often come with high expectations. Families look forward to warm days, relaxation and more time together, but for many adults alcohol also becomes more visible during this season. The organisation notes that parents do not always agree on how much alcohol is appropriate when children are around, and that this can create tension during a time that is meant to be calm and enjoyable.
The campaign encourages parents to think ahead and make clear choices before alcohol becomes a source of disagreement. According to Av-og-til, zero, one, or at most two glasses is also what children themselves tend to say is acceptable when adults drink around them. Drinking less can help parents stay more present, reduce arguments and create a better atmosphere for both children and adults during the summer.
