Surrey County Council has released a new set of short videos addressing alcohol problems in a practical and human way. The videos, shared through the Alcohol Health Champions project in partnership with Surrey County Council, focus on everyday conversations, knowing alcohol units, early intervention, and the free AlcoholWise support available in Surrey. The campaign also thanks local volunteer champions for taking part, showing how community voices can help open up a topic that is often left too late.
The message is simple: alcohol harm does not always begin with a crisis. It can start with drinking more than planned, noticing changes in sleep, mood or energy, or feeling that alcohol has become harder to control. The AlcoholWise test offers a short and anonymous way for Surrey residents to reflect on their drinking, understand whether it may be affecting their health, and see what kind of support could help. The service is aimed at adults in Surrey who want to reduce or stop drinking before the problem becomes more serious.
AlcoholWise offers free, confidential support, including up to six sessions with an NHS alcohol worker, help with realistic goals, support for managing triggers and cravings, and practical strategies for building healthier habits. By combining short awareness videos with a clear route into support, Surrey’s campaign is a good example of local alcohol harm prevention: normalising early conversations, making self-reflection easier, and helping people act before alcohol takes a stronger hold.
