“Royal Life Saving wants everyone to enjoy the water safely this summer, but to prepare and brush up on safety precautions, especially in unfamiliar locations.
This summer, more than ever, Australians will want to get outdoors. We are a water orientated nation, and it’s part of who we are. More than half of all Australians will travel to an aquatic location, exploring our beautiful waterways including rivers, swimming pools, harbours and beaches.
New Royal Life Saving research has found that more than one-third of all Australians who drown died more than 50km from home, prompting an urgent warning as people plan post-pandemic reunions away from home with family and friends.
Avoid alcohol around the water. More than half of all adults will drink alcohol around the water this summer and we know alcohol is one of the biggest risk factors for drowning among adults.“
