Not Even 1: Irish goalkeepers deliver a clear message on drink-driving

Maintaining focus, staying sharp and making quick decisions are essential for a goalkeeper. They are equally important behind the wheel. The Road Safety Authority’s “Not Even 1” campaign brings these responsibilities together, urging motorists to avoid alcohol completely whenever they plan to drive.

Created in partnership with the Gaelic Players Association, the campaign features All-Ireland winning goalkeepers Sarah Healy from Galway, Nickie Quaid from Limerick, Monica McGuirk from Meath and Niall Morgan from Tyrone. The players discuss the concentration and mental clarity they need when the stakes are high, connecting their experiences in sport with the responsibility of every driver.

At the centre of the campaign is a simple visual idea. Specially commissioned jerseys carry the words “Not Even” above the goalkeeper’s number 1, reinforcing the message that even a single drink is too many before driving.

The film follows the athletes as they prepare for a match, with close-ups and personal reflections on protecting their performance. Each player delivers the words “Not even one”, before the closing instruction: “Never ever drink and drive.”

The message applies to anyone getting behind the wheel, whether driving a car, van, truck, bus or motorcycle. Planning to drive means planning not to drink.
