Parents Empowered has launched No Bummer Summer, a bright and practical campaign built around a simple prevention idea: an alcohol-free summer for kids starts with parents. Instead of leading with warnings, the campaign invites families to build a summer full of connection, activities and shared memories, helping keep young people engaged and away from underage drinking.
At the centre of the campaign is a dedicated microsite where parents can take a personality quiz, discover their parenting type and unlock activity ideas for the summer. The tone is playful, but the prevention message is serious: parents have a powerful influence on whether children choose to stay alcohol-free. Spending time together, setting clear no-alcohol rules and staying involved in children’s lives are all presented as practical steps that families can take.
No Bummer Summer is a good example of how alcohol prevention can be made positive, family-centred and easy to act on. It does not shame parents or young people. It gives families tools, language and motivation to make healthier choices during a season when unsupervised time and social pressure can increase risks. The message is clear: summer can be fun, active and memorable without alcohol being part of children’s lives.
