There is an age for everything

The City Council of Torrejón de Ardoz has launched a new prevention campaign under the slogan “Para todo hay una edad” (“There is an age for everything”), aimed at preventing alcohol use and gambling with money among minors. Presented by Mayor Alejandro Navarro Prieto and the Councillor for Welfare, Education and Immigration, Rubén Martínez, the campaign focuses on healthy leisure and on reminding young people, families and local businesses that some activities should not begin before adulthood.

According to the figures presented by the municipality, an estimated 54.1% of minors have consumed alcohol at some point in their lives, while 38.5% have done so in the last month. The average age of initiation is reported to be 13 years, five years before alcohol use is legally permitted. The campaign also addresses gambling, noting that 34.4% of minors aged 14 to 17 have gambled with money at least once, either online or in person.

The campaign combines communication through social media with direct outreach in the city. Posters in two formats will be distributed to leisure and hospitality venues, supermarkets, hypermarkets, betting shops and municipal facilities used by young people. The aim is not only to reach minors, but also to involve the establishments where alcohol or gambling opportunities may be available, strengthening shared responsibility for protecting children and adolescents.

As part of the campaign, 8,000 bookmarks will also be distributed to secondary school students through local schools. Both the posters and bookmarks include QR codes linking to campaign content on Instagram and TikTok, where young people are more likely to see the message. The initiative is part of the SUBE-T community programme, funded by the Government Delegation for the National Plan on Drugs and the Torrejón City Council, and promotes healthy alternative leisure for young people under the age of 25.
