Everyone Plays a Part: FASD Awareness Month

September is recognized as FASD Awareness Month, and this year, CanFASD is leading a campaign with the theme “Everyone Plays a Part.” This campaign focuses on the vital role each individual can play in raising awareness about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and promoting healthy pregnancies. CanFASD emphasizes that small actions—such as having a conversation about FASD, taking an online course to better understand the condition, or advocating for FASD rights—can spark larger changes in the community. Their message is clear: everyone, regardless of their role in society, has a part to play in supporting individuals affected by FASD and preventing prenatal alcohol exposure.

FASD is caused by prenatal alcohol exposure and can lead to lifelong challenges, including difficulties with learning, behaviour, and emotional regulation. CanFASD’s campaign reminds us that addressing FASD requires a collective effort from all corners of society. By increasing awareness, providing non-judgmental support to those at risk, and advocating for better resources and policies, we can help create a future where FASD is better understood and prevented. Let’s come together this September to support CanFASD’s message and play our part in this important cause.
