“New Year’s Eve is a night of celebration, but to make sure you don’t spend the New Year in the Trauma Department, health experts recommended having a plan.
“Make plans to have a designated driver if you’re going out drinking. You want to make sure that you’re paying attention to the roadways, whether you’re the driver or the pedestrian,” said Syndi Bultman, an Injury Prevention Resource Coordinator with Lee Health.
For the last three years, nearly a dozen people have gone to the Lee Health Trauma Center on New Year’s Eve. “Most of those have actually been from falls. They have been older adults that have been falling. They might be at a house that has the decorations up, and there’s a little party, and they are tripping on the cords or the rugs,” said Bultman.”
