In December 2021, SAMHSA introduced a podcast titled “What Parents Are Saying—Prevention Wisdom, Authenticity, and Empowerment,” which aimed to empower parents and caregivers to discuss substance use and mental health with their children.
One standout episode features high school athletes from across the U.S., part of their schools’ Substance-Free Athletics program, who share their experiences with substance use, peer pressure, and the supportive role parents can play. These students articulate the reasons behind their choice to remain substance-free and the impact of their advocacy on this critical issue.
