The Youth Service in Gibraltar has launched a new social media campaign focused on addiction and substance misuse among young people, developed in close collaboration with DARS Care Agency and the Gibraltar Academy of Music and Performing Arts. The initiative was shaped following input and encouragement from the Minister for Youth, the Hon Christian Santos GMP MP, in his role as Chair of the Drugs Advisory Council. It reflects a clear message that preventing substance misuse requires cross departmental cooperation and early intervention.
The campaign consists of five short video clips aimed at a young audience, exploring addiction, recovery and the ways substance misuse can shape life choices. The content draws on 2025 research carried out with individuals in recovery in Gibraltar, ensuring that the messages are grounded in lived experience rather than abstract warnings. These research findings were developed into scripts and brought to life by young actors from GAMPA and the Youth Symposium group, with production led by Alistair Sanchez. Participants described the process as meaningful and impactful, underlining the value of sharing stories that resonate with their peers.
At its core, the initiative reflects the Youth Service’s commitment to preventive, youth focused education delivered through the platforms young people use every day. By combining research, creative expression and collaboration across agencies, the campaign places authenticity at the centre of its message. The Youth Service has expressed its thanks to the DARS Care Agency team, GAMPA and the Youth Symposium participants for their contribution to a project that aims to open conversations and strengthen awareness among young people.
