On January 5, 2026, Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares premiered and released a new short documentary under the state’s “One Pill Can Kill” campaign during a fentanyl and counterfeit pill awareness event at Salem High School in Virginia Beach, his alma mater. The Office of the Attorney General presented the film to students as part of its ongoing school and community outreach on fentanyl risks.
The campaign message is blunt for a reason: fentanyl continues to drive overdose deaths in Virginia and nationally, and young people are increasingly exposed to counterfeit pills laced with fentanyl. These pills can be made to look like legitimate prescription medications, but the campaign warns that a single pill can be fatal.
According to the Attorney General’s office, the documentary aims to give students, families, and communities a direct look at the fentanyl crisis in Virginia, including how fentanyl laced counterfeit pills are manufactured and distributed, and the consequences for individuals and families. It also includes victim stories and law enforcement perspectives, and places emphasis on recovery and treatment for people struggling with addiction, with the project developed in collaboration with First Lady Suzanne Youngkin and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
