The Go-Safe project, promoted by the Addiction Department of ULSS 9 Scaligera in cooperation with the social cooperative Energie Sociali, aims to raise awareness and prevent alcohol abuse, particularly in relation to the risks of driving under the influence. In recent days, Go-Safe information stands, staffed by ULSS 9 professionals and tutors, were present at two major Verona events: Hostaria, the wine festival in the historic city center, and the Ludus student festival in Veronetta.
During these events, 472 alcohol tests were carried out, reaching an estimated 1,400 people. At Hostaria, 57 percent of participants tested below the legal driving limit of 0.5 g/l, while 180 exceeded it, including 11 with levels over 1.5 g/l. Among those who had arrived by car or motorcycle, 36 were above the limit – most chose to wait or hand over their keys, though five admitted they would still drive. These figures highlight both the progress and ongoing challenges in promoting responsible drinking and preventing impaired driving.
Go-Safe is part of Veneto’s three-year addiction plan and extends the work of previous initiatives such as Tutor and Giochi Puliti. It uses portable breathalyzers, driving simulators, and carbon monoxide meters to engage the public, especially young people, in reflecting on their consumption habits. The next Go-Safe tutor training sessions will take place on November 7 and 14 in Porto San Pancrazio, Verona.
