On 26 September 2025, MHF will highlight Traffic Sobriety Day across the country – this year in close collaboration with Bilprovningen at stations throughout Sweden. The aim is to shine a light on the people affected by drink-driving and to mobilise more people to act against alcohol and drug influence in traffic.

Every week at least one person dies, completely unnecessarily, in drink-driving related accidents – and more than a thousand are seriously injured. Behind these numbers are families whose lives are changed forever. Traffic Sobriety Day is a reminder of the seriousness, but also of what we can do: not drive under the influence – and dare to tip off the police if you suspect someone is driving impaired.
Why Traffic Sobriety Day is needed
“We bury more than one person a week because of drink-driving.” This involves both alcohol and drug-related driving.
Day-after problem: Driving ability can be reduced by about 20% the day after drinking alcohol – even when you “feel sober.”
Civil courage saves lives: If you suspect drink-driving – tip off via polisen.se or call 114 14, or 112 if there is an immediate danger.
Quote (MHF): “The worst thing you can encounter on your way home is not a police check – but the risk that someone is driving impaired and injures or kills. Our message is simple: drive sober, think about the day after, and dare to tip off the police. No one should die from drink-driving.”
