For 130 years, Blue Cross Denmark has helped people in difficult situations, and the social and diaconal aid organization is marking this anniversary with a new community song about hope and togetherness, written by hymn writer and author Iben Krogsdal and pianist and composer Mads Granum.
Community singing can create space for joy, reflection, and connection. This is exactly what Blue Cross Denmark wants with its new song “I can see a future deep in your eyes.”
This is the very first time that the diaconal aid organization is releasing a song, and it is happening in celebration of the organization’s 130th anniversary. For Blue Cross’ Secretary General, Morten Skov Mogensen, it is with pride that the song is now being released, and he is pleased that it provides a strong shared expression of hope and community.
“We have created this song as a signature for our work over 130 years. It is about community, hope, and care – all that is at the heart of Blue Cross. We want the song to become a community song that can bring people together around what we believe in: Everyone should have hope,” he says.
“The song reminds us that it is about something greater than ourselves. It is a call to see one another, to reach out a hand, and to be part of the community that creates light in the darkness,” continues Morten Skov Mogensen.
Since 1895, Blue Cross Denmark has helped and supported people in vulnerable life situations. The organization runs, among other things, drop-in centers, shelters, alcohol treatment programs, and social initiatives for children, young people, and families across the country.
Hope comes free of charge
The song “I can see a future deep in your eyes” was created in collaboration with hymn writer and author Iben Krogsdal and pianist and composer Mads Granum.

For Iben Krogsdal, it is about experiencing hope and the presence of God through song.
“It was a wonderful task to receive. When I began the writing process, it really became clear to me how the world can open up in the encounter between people right where the background is dark,” says Iben Krogsdal.
“I imagined that situation where two people sit together and share something difficult, and perhaps, for a split second, glimpse the future somewhere deep in the other’s eyes – as a glimmer of hope,” she says.
Mads Granum has written a number of well-known hymn melodies and is, among other works, behind “You ask me about hope” together with Lisbeth Smedegaard Andersen. His focus has been on creating a melody that is both comforting and uplifting.
“This assignment has had a special meaning for me, because my grandfather was part of Blue Cross’ national board for 25 years. He wrote the book ‘The History of Blue Cross’ on the occasion of the 100th anniversary, so there is a family connection that has been tied together in a wonderful way. At the same time, I am currently working on releasing music about hope in a difficult time – something this song speaks directly into,” says Mads Granum.
