Alcohol Focus Scotland has released a new series of powerful awareness posters to mark Alcohol Awareness Week. These posters target some of the most pressing and often overlooked realities of alcohol use, from its link to cancer and liver disease to the broader life impacts that don’t always show up on a receipt. With clear, bold messages and a focus on practical advice, the materials aim to empower people to reflect on their drinking and consider small changes that could bring real benefits.
The posters take on a variety of themes. One reminds us that alcohol can cost far more than money, highlighting that problems can exist even without dependence. Another points out that 1 in 2 Scots are unaware that alcohol causes cancer—a fact the alcohol industry would rather stay quiet about. One design brings focus to liver health, warning that drinking even moderately above the recommended 14 units per week can sharply increase risk. And the series also includes practical advice: cutting down even slightly can improve your wellbeing, save money and reduce health risks.
These resources are designed not just to inform but to challenge assumptions, encourage conversation and make support more visible. Each poster includes a link to further information at alcohol-focus-scotland.org.uk and the Drinkline helpline, offering help for anyone concerned about their own or someone else’s drinking.
The full series is available to download from Alcohol Focus Scotland’s website (Scotland, June 2025)
