Led by AVECsanté and funded by the National Cancer Institute (INCa), the “Alcohol, here we talk about it!” project introduces a structured protocol for early identification and support of individuals with risky alcohol consumption. Implemented in nine health centres across Brittany, Grand-Est, and Occitanie, this initiative aims to reduce alcohol-related risks and prevent dependence by focusing on the link between alcohol and cancer. Through a monothematic approach, the project highlights the impact of alcohol on overall health while empowering healthcare teams with tools and training to guide patients toward informed decisions.
Key features of the project include the development of a “baseline” intervention protocol (RPIB), enabling early identification and brief interventions tailored to at-risk individuals. A collaborative platform provides access to essential resources, such as patient data collection documents and materials for healthcare teams. By offering training and on-site support, the initiative ensures effective integration within health centres, promoting sustained impact. From 2021 to 2024, the project reached 157 patients, demonstrating its potential for broader application in preventive health efforts.
By emphasizing awareness of the cancer-alcohol connection and providing robust support to health professionals, “Alcohol, here we talk about it!” showcases how focused interventions can drive meaningful progress in public health. This project not only fosters dialogue around alcohol consumption but also strengthens the capacity of healthcare systems to address complex health challenges.
