#tipaton2025

The Finnish tradition of Tipaton tammikuu (Dry January) is back, encouraging individuals to pause and reflect on their alcohol consumption. This year’s theme, Elä enemmän (Live More), invites participants to explore the joys of an alcohol-free month while embracing a healthier and more energetic lifestyle. With retro-themed campaign posters featuring bold characters like Tarmo the dancing table-topper and Arto the hat-knitter, Tipaton brings a playful spirit to an impactful message: you can be your best, most authentic self without alcohol.

Tipaton tammikuu has deep roots in Finnish history, originating from a sobriety campaign for returning soldiers after World War II. Today, it’s a modern movement aligned with the global sober curious trend, encouraging people to question their drinking habits and consider healthier alternatives. Whether it’s giving up alcohol entirely for the month or simply cutting back, Tipaton offers a flexible approach to suit everyone.

The benefits of going alcohol-free are clear: improved mood, better sleep, reduced stress, and even financial savings. According to a 2024 survey by EHYT ry, 18% of participants felt more energetic during their dry month, while 12% reported better sleep and overall well-being. Tipaton isn’t just a January phenomenon—over half of last year’s participants continued their reduced drinking into February, with many citing health and financial reasons as their main motivators.

As we head into Tipaton 2025, the campaign also seeks to spark conversations about the social pressures tied to drinking. Saying no to alcohol can be challenging, especially when met with skepticism or fear of exclusion. Tipaton tammikuu offers an opportunity to rethink the reasons behind drinking habits and take a stand against societal norms. Coordinated by the Ehkäisevän päihdetyön järjestöverkosto and EHYT ry, Tipaton encourages everyone to join the movement and share their journey with #tipaton2025.
