Frank Church High School students are taking a bold stand against underage drinking with their latest youth-led alcohol awareness campaign. Supported by The Office of Drug Policy and the Idaho Liquor Division, this impactful initiative aims to prevent early alcohol exposure by reminding adults of their role in protecting young people. As part of the campaign, students plan to place 30,000 stickers on bags at local liquor stores across Boise, Idaho, with the message: “Ensure Brighter Futures: Never Provide Alcohol to Minors.” This slogan not only promotes community responsibility but also underscores the significant influence adults have on youth decisions.
Set to launch statewide on November 29, 2024, the campaign is a testament to the students’ dedication to raising awareness about the long-term effects of underage drinking. This effort expands on their previous initiative in November 2023, where they placed 20,000 stickers on liquor store bags. Reflecting on this year’s expanded goal, students expressed their commitment to going beyond previous efforts, hoping that these reminders will spark conversations and reduce the rates of underage drinking in their community.
The campaign video features insights from Tara Haley, an AVID teacher at Frank Church High School, who supports the campaign’s message. She shares personal reflections from her students who, now proudly sober, recall the damaging impact of early exposure to alcohol from trusted adults. Haley emphasizes that many adults may be unaware of the harmful, lasting effects underage drinking can have on a child’s brain and future behaviors. Through this initiative, these passionate students are actively working to shift attitudes and encourage adults to act responsibly in protecting the future of Idaho’s youth.
