Key Moment

The “Key Moment” campaign was launched at Ramstein Air Base to tackle DUI incidents within the Kaiserslautern Military Community (KMC) and surrounding areas. Major General Paul D. Moga, together with regional police and government officials, emphasized the initiative’s focus on raising awareness of the consequences of driving under the influence. Designed by the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of the Interior, the bilingual campaign provides educational resources in English and German, including posters, graphics, and QR codes that link to informative content on DUI prevention.

At the heart of the campaign is the pivotal decision moment – the “Key Moment” – where individuals choose whether to drive under the influence or seek alternative options. Jacqueline Schröder, Head of the Pirmasens Police Inspection, highlighted this “moment” as the point at which personal responsibility can alter outcomes drastically, potentially saving lives. The campaign is dedicated to making people pause and consider the impact of their choices, aiming to shift mindsets around drinking and driving in both German and U.S. communities within the region.

This campaign is part of an ongoing partnership established in July between the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of the Interior and the KMC, with both sides committed to reducing DUI offenses through education and regular strategy meetings. Major General Moga underscored the U.S. military’s dedication to community safety, noting that the well-being of Service Members, families, and the local population remains a top priority in their collaboration with local German police.
