Respect Campaign

The City of Alexandria (in the state of Virginia, United States) has launched the Respect Campaign to coincide with National Bullying Prevention Month and National Substance Use Prevention Month, aimed at fostering a culture of respect and addressing critical concerns about youth safety and substance use. Created in collaboration with Alexandria City High School (ACHS) students, the campaign features a series of videos in which students share what respect means to them, ways to show it, and the profound effects of substance use on their community. By sharing these videos, the campaign encourages social media followers to join the conversation by defining respect and promoting positive behaviors within their schools and communities.

This initiative, spearheaded by the Mayor’s Campaign to End Bullying and the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria (SAPCA), underscores the strong link between respect and substance-free lifestyles among youth. With SAPCA’s support, Alexandria has a longstanding commitment to reducing underage substance use, engaging parents, schools, city services, and community organizations in cross-cultural and comprehensive prevention efforts. Together, these campaigns advocate for a safer, more supportive environment by raising awareness about the social norms that encourage youth to avoid substances and creating a lasting impact on student well-being and community cohesion.
