Red Ribbon Week – 2024

Red Ribbon Week, celebrated annually from October 23 to 31, aims to inspire communities to live drug-free lives. The theme for 2024, “Life is A Movie, Film Drug Free.™,” was selected through the National Family Partnership’s (NFP) annual contest, with the winning slogan submitted by Cheryl Holsapfel, a digital art teacher, and Devansh Aggarwal from Solon Middle School. This creative theme encourages individuals to take an active role in fostering drug-free communities by embracing their unique part in this shared narrative.

The theme contest is an integral part of Red Ribbon Week, as it mobilizes millions of Americans to engage with drug prevention efforts. By incorporating the campaign into her curriculum, Holsapfel highlights the real-world applications students experience through the creative process. Through lessons on design, visual literacy, and audience analysis, students refine their messaging to ensure their ideas resonate, ultimately contributing to the broader goal of raising drug awareness. The initiative empowers students to see the tangible impact of their creativity in their communities.

Founded in response to the tragic death of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena in 1985, Red Ribbon Week remains a powerful symbol of drug awareness. The NFP continues to lead this movement by providing resources, education, and advocacy to help build a healthier, drug-free future for youth and families. By joining this annual observance, communities across the nation come together to remember Camarena’s legacy and strengthen the collective fight against the destructive influence of drugs.
