Those who abuse… lose

RADA, a South African organization focused on addressing issues of rape, alcohol, and drug abuse, is sending a powerful message about the realities of addiction. Addiction begins with a choice, but its consequences extend far beyond the individual, affecting friends, families, and entire communities. In South Africa, the situation is particularly concerning, with 17.5 million people affected by alcohol abuse and over 30% of the population struggling with alcohol-related problems. The impact on youth is especially alarming—schoolchildren who use alcohol or drugs are three times more likely to engage in violent crime, and those aged 18 to 22 are the most frequent abusers. This widespread substance abuse is a significant factor contributing to the country’s high rates of violence and murder, highlighting the urgent need for action.

RADA emphasizes that it is everyone’s responsibility to break the cycle of addiction, which directly or indirectly affects us all. Acknowledging the problem and seeking help is a courageous first step. RADA encourages individuals to find their inner strength, focus on their passions, and make positive choices that lead to a fulfilling and victorious life. By saying ‘no’ to substance abuse, people can transform their lives and become meaningful contributors to society. RADA is committed to supporting individuals on this journey and fostering a community that stands united against the scourge of addiction. Together, through awareness, support, and action, we can create a future where every person has the opportunity to thrive.
