The Sassari Local Police, funded by a €250,000 grant from the Ministry, is launching the “On The Road” project on Saturday, June 29, in Piazza Tola. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, reduce emergency room visits for alcohol poisoning and accidents, and foster a culture of awareness among young people.
Specialized street units composed of local police officers and educators from the La Gaia Scienza cooperative will engage with young people, particularly those aged 15-30, in popular hangout spots to discuss the risks associated with substance abuse, especially when driving.
Through informative materials and powerful videos, the project seeks to create meaningful interactions with individuals and groups, promoting dialogue and understanding. The goal is to reduce the incidence of traffic accidents caused by impaired driving and change young people’s perceptions of alcohol and drugs.
The project will run from June 29 to September, covering various locations from Platamona to Via Torre Tonda, Piazza d’Italia, and other event venues. Alongside awareness efforts, increased roadside checks will be conducted, especially on weekends, to monitor drivers’ conditions.
