How is alcohol impacting our lives?

Alcohol can sometimes play a central role in people’s lives. It’s promoted as they watch their favourite sports, advertised as they travel to work, and strategically placed in their favourite films and TV shows. It’s there when they celebrate, commiserate, and when they’re just trying to cope. Yet, despite its prevalence, alcohol is harming their health and well-being daily, from the quality of the sleep they get to their relationships with those they love. Each year, thousands of people experience long-term health problems as a result of the alcohol they drink or die from alcohol-related causes.

However, alcohol never impacts individuals in isolation. This Alcohol Awareness Week, Alcohol Change UK will explore exactly what is meant by ‘alcohol harm’ and challenge the stereotype of alcohol as an ‘individual’s problem’. They aim to get the country talking about the role that alcohol plays in society and what it means to families, communities, health workers, and those in emergency services.
