This year’s National Alcohol Action Day in Switzerland will take place on May 23, 2024, under the theme “Alcohol and Work.” This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the issues related to alcohol consumption and its impact on the workplace.
Comprehensive Information and Resources
On the official website, you will find all the necessary information about the National Alcohol Action Day, including various tools to assist in your activities. You can also list your activities in the event agenda. This day is organized by Ticino Addiction, Fachverband Sucht, GREA, Dipendenze Svizzera, and Blue Cross Switzerland, with co-funding from the Alcohol Prevention Fund. It provides a framework for specialized centres to conduct their awareness activities effectively.
Campaign from 2024 to 2026
To offer member organizations a reference framework for their awareness activities, the organizing consortium will hold another National Alcohol Action Day annually from 2024 to 2026.
The project consortium is developing several tools to implement the action day. These include:
- A concept document with information on the theme “Alcohol and Work”
- A planning guide
- A flyer
- Informational material
- A press release
- Promotional items such as Post-Its, pens, and alcohol quizzes
Objectives of the National Alcohol Action Day
The objectives of the National Alcohol Action Day are to:
- Raise awareness among the public, media, and institutions about the specific problems faced by individuals with alcohol dependency and their families.
- Address taboo subjects related to alcohol consumption.
- Provide a platform for all institutions working in alcohol prevention, counselling, and therapy.
Support and Future Communication Strategies
The project is supported by the Alcohol Prevention Fund and complements Dry January (primarily managed by Blue Cross Switzerland) in terms of target groups, themes, and channels.
Challenges and Future Prospects
Currently, alcohol prevention campaigns are facing a period of uncertainty. The consortium consisting of GREA, Fachverband Sucht, Blue Cross Switzerland, and Dipendenze Svizzera has taken the end of the Alcohol Dialogue Week as an opportunity to re-evaluate future alcohol prevention strategies. The outcome has been disheartening, particularly due to the lack of necessary medium- and long-term funding for consistent and public national communication on alcohol prevention.
