“People, Places and Things” returns to West End, partners with addiction awareness campaign

Duncan Macmillan’s critically acclaimed play, “People, Places and Things,” is making a return to London’s West End, with performances running at the Trafalgar Theatre until August 10, 2024. The play, directed by Jeremy Herrin and designed by Tony Award-winner Bunny Christie, explores themes of addiction and recovery through the story of Emma, a struggling actress. Denise Gough, who won an Olivier Award for her role as Emma in 2016, reprises her role, delivering a performance praised as “blisteringly funny, brilliantly physical, and achingly human.”

“People, Places and Things” has partnered with the Taking Action on Addiction campaign, led by The Forward Trust. This collaboration aims to raise awareness about addiction and promote recovery. Mike Trace, CEO of The Forward Trust, emphasized the importance of the play in conveying the message that recovery is possible for everyone. The play’s portrayal of addiction seeks to provide representation and visibility for those affected, breaking down the stigma often associated with it.

The Forward Trust, through its Taking Action on Addiction campaign, continues to support thousands of individuals in their recovery and rehabilitation. The campaign aims to build awareness, celebrate recovery, improve understanding, and dispel myths surrounding addiction. The play and the campaign together strive to foster an environment where people feel comfortable seeking help and discussing their experiences with addiction.
