Alcohol Awareness Month

April is Alcohol Awareness Month, an initiative that raises awareness about alcohol use disorder (AUD) and its harmful effects on health and society, including its association with over 200 disease and injury conditions. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) offer extensive resources aimed at educating the public, providing support for individuals struggling with alcohol misuse, and facilitating access to treatment options. NIAAA’s contributions focus on providing research-based information and interactive tools for various demographics, while SAMHSA emphasizes the importance of treatment accessibility and the broader spectrum of substance abuse and mental health services. This month-long observance seeks to address the stigma surrounding alcoholism and substance abuse, encourage open discussions, and highlight the availability of resources for prevention, treatment, and recovery across multiple platforms.
