“I say no” to drugs and alcohol: the rap contest against addiction

This competition in Italy aims to provide young people, in particular, with the opportunity to express their creativity by using it to convey an educational message that can reach their peers. The rap contest “I say no!” has been launched as a competition of ideas for the youth and the not-so-young who love music and want to help raise awareness among their peers and the broader community against pathological addictions. This initiative is part of the communication and prevention campaign of the same-named project promoted by the Arthesia Aps Association, aimed at carrying out a primary prevention intervention against substance and behavioural addiction phenomena.

The project, supported by the Sicilian Region, Department of Family and Social Policies contribution, began in April 2023. Throughout its implementation, it has carried out extensive awareness-raising actions across various Sicilian territories, such as Monreale, Petralia Sottana, Casteldaccia, Gangi, and Palermo. These efforts include organizing ‘hook’ events of various types (cultural, recreational, sporting) that engage different age groups. The goal is to inform the entire population about the risks associated with substance abuse and/or behaviours and to promote health and healthy play.

This rap contest specifically aims to offer young people the chance to use their creativity to serve an educational message that resonates with their peers. A rap song to promote healthy lifestyles through music, saying “no” to the use and abuse of alcohol, drugs, pathological gambling, and “new addictions.” Participation in the contest is free. The contest is open until midnight on March 31, 2024. For more information, contest rules, and the registration form, visit the Instagram pages @Associazione Arthesia and @studio_borealis.
