When you care about someone, you hold them back

The French Road Safety Authority (Sécurité Routière) organised a remarkable initiative titled “When you care about someone, you hold them back” in 2023. This campaign, featuring 46 prominent television and radio personalities, addresses the serious issue of drunk driving, especially during the festive end-of-year period.

As families and friends come together to celebrate, these joyous moments are often accompanied by meals and drinks, sometimes leading to risky decisions like drunk driving. The campaign stresses the importance of responsible behaviour in these situations.

A key film in the campaign portrays a scenario where a slightly inebriated friend is about to leave a gathering. This moment is pivotal, highlighting the responsibility of individuals as friends and hosts. Television personalities like Denis Brogniart, Marie Portolano, Mouloud Achour, and Kareen Guiock creatively intervene to prevent their friend from driving.

The initiative by Sécurité Routière emphasizes a clear message: “When you care about someone, you hold them back… by any means necessary.” This campaign is a powerful reminder of the collective responsibility we share to ensure safety during times of celebration.
