Have you ever asked yourself “why?”

“Rethink the Drink” is a campaign launched by the Oregon Health Authority to encourage people to think and talk about alcohol in new ways that truly reflect the varied ways we use and experience it. The campaign aims to help start conversations about how people can reduce alcohol use, without telling people to stop drinking. The campaign highlights the fact that many of us drink excessively and don’t even know it, and that it’s easy to cross the line into higher-risk drinking without realizing it. The campaign provides resources to help people drink less and encourages people to pause for a moment and consider the role of alcohol in their own lives and communities.

The campaign is particularly relevant in Oregon, where one in five people drink excessively, increasing their odds of developing an alcohol use disorder later in life. Excessive drinking increases the risk of cancer, liver disease, heart disease, and depression. Six people in Oregon die from alcohol-related reasons every day.

The campaign encourages people to rethink how they interact with alcohol and highlights the benefits of doing so at every stage of life. The campaign provides tools and resources for cutting back on drinking, including strategies for drinking less and links to get support or find help.
