A new initiative titled “AFTERWORK” is gaining attention as it promotes a zero-alcohol policy during pregnancy in the workplace. This campaign, led by France’s Assurance Maladie in partnership with COREADD Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Mutualité Sociale Agricole de Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Réseau Périnat Nouvelle-Aquitaine, and supported by ARS Nouvelle-Aquitaine – Agence régionale de Santé, emphasizes the importance of providing non-alcoholic beverage options at work-related social events. The initiative highlights the need to respect and support those who choose not to drink alcohol, especially pregnant women or those trying to conceive. It also addresses the sensitivity of the issue, advising against pressuring women to drink alcohol or asking intrusive questions about their pregnancy status.
The campaign reinforces the critical message that alcohol can cross the placenta and is neurotoxic to a developing fetus, particularly affecting the brain throughout the pregnancy. It points out that all types of alcohol, whether beer, wine, vodka, or whiskey, contain the same amount of pure alcohol. The reminder is clear: offering alcohol to a pregnant woman is not advised. This video campaign aims to rally not just the professional circle but also friends and family, underlining the importance of a precautionary principle and a supportive environment for expecting mothers.
