Summer is a season of unity and jubilation. It invites after-work hangouts, barbecue parties, community festivals, and familial celebrations. These events often involve the enjoyment of alcohol.
In light of this, the expansive campaign “Safe Home in Summer” is orchestrated with a mission to augment the consciousness of road users towards safer driving practices. Opting for transportation options like taxis and public transit is not merely a responsible choice; it’s a protective measure for oneself and the community, thereby ensuring that the delights of summer gatherings remain unhampered.
Salzburg, during the months of January through April 2023, witnessed an unfortunate rise in the count of drivers reported under the influence of alcohol — a near 5% increase compared to the corresponding period in the preceding year. Drivers impaired due to addictive substances presented an even more alarming scenario, with a surge close to 40%. It is such statistics that propel the need for a campaign like “Safe Home in Summer” that advocates for responsible road etiquette.
The campaign owes its initiation to an amalgamation of organizations that prioritize safety and community well-being. These include the State of Salzburg (Land Salzburg), Salzburg’s transportation network, Salzburg Verkehr verbindet, the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce (WKS), and the police force of Salzburg (Polizei).
